The radiology and imaging services in Deer Park provided at Community Health 1st ER are used to diagnose and treat disease and injury. Our services include CT scans, digital x-rays, EKGs and ultrasounds. Our emergency room strives to provide a wide variety of services so that we can be prepared for an emergency you might be facing.
A computerized tomography (CT) scan takes a series of x-ray images from different angles around the body and combines them. Using computer processing, it creates cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues inside the body. CT scan images provide more detailed information than x-ray images do. They have a variety of uses, but are most commonly used to quickly examine people who may have internal injuries from incidents such as car accidents or other types of trauma. A CT scan can be used on nearly all parts of the body to diagnose disease or injury and to plan treatment, whether it is medical, surgical, or radiation.
Unlike traditional x-rays, which are taken on photographic film, digital x-rays are taken using digital x-ray sensors and a digital image capture device. This makes the process more time-efficient and improves the images by making them digital. They can then be transferred more easily and enhanced, if needed. An added advantage is that less radiation is used with digital x-rays.
An electrocardiogram records the electrical signals in the heart and is commonly used to detect heart problems. It can also be used to monitor the heart’s status in many situations. It is noninvasive and painless and produces fast results. Sensors (electrodes) are attached to the chest and sometimes the limbs in order to detect the electrical activity of the heart. The test usually takes only a few minutes.
Also called sonography or diagnostic medical sonography, an ultrasound is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within the body. These images can provide valuable information for diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases and conditions. In addition to monitoring a developing baby’s health, ultrasounds can be used to diagnose gallbladder disease, evaluate blood flow, examine a breast lump, detect genital and prostate problems, and assess joint inflammation.
