Blood Testing

A blood test can reveal a wealth of information. From a blood sample taken from either a finger prick or extracted from a vein, we can analyze levels of potassium, sodium, urea, and glucose in the blood. Blood tests also measure cholesterol levels (HDL and LDL), platelet levels, blood clotting capabilities, hemoglobin levels, a white blood cell count, and red blood cell count. Overall health can be measured by analyzing the complete blood count.

Diagnostic Testing

Diagnostic testing in Deer Park is done to detect, confirm, or rule out the presence of a disease or medical condition in a patient. They can also be used to screen for certain conditions in people who are at increased risk for that condition, either due to genetics or lifestyle habits; to evaluate the effects of treatment, or to monitor the progression of a disease. There are a number of diagnostic tests available. Common ones include allergy testing, cancer tests, genetic testing, gynecological tests, lung and breathing tests and skin tests.

Cultures

Blood cultures are done to detect an infection in the blood and to identify the cause. Infections of the bloodstream are commonly caused by bacteria, but can also be caused by yeasts, other fungi, or a virus.

Cardiac Enzyme Analysis

A cardiac enzyme test is performed to assess whether a patient is currently experiencing or has recently had a heart attack. It is often done if a patient comes to the ER with chest pains. It can also be used to check the functioning of the heart after bypass graft surgery or angioplasty.

Strep, Mono, and Influenza Tests

Strep throat, mononucleosis, and the flu are all potentially serious illnesses. The flu and mono are caused by viruses while strep is a bacterial infection. They present various symptoms that include fever, sore throat, swollen tonsils, and headache. Strep and flu are usually tested using a swab taken from the mouth. Mono is tested using a blood sample.
